Solar panel cleaning: when it pays off and how to do it safely

For managers of roofs with solar panels, from an office building to a large industrial roof, who want to know whether cleaning is worth it. The honest answer depends on the roof. A European study (DLR, 2024) puts the average annual loss from soiling at 0.9% if rain cleans the panels perfectly, and up to 5.3% if rain does only a tenth of that work. These articles help you judge how that plays out on your roof: how often cleaning makes sense, which water to use, and how it can be done without anyone on the roof.
